Team Leader L3 EPA

Two EPA components:

(Please note there are different versions of this standard and assessments can vary so we will check with you before booking in the EPA and ensure you have the correct details).

The Presentation with Questions and Answers:

The apprentice will prepare and deliver a presentation followed by Q&A, based on topics covered within the apprenticeship. The presentation should cover their role as a team leader, what they do and how this is relevant to the organisation. The presentation and Q&A session should last 50 minutes, 20 minutes of which should be the presentation.

Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence:

The professional discussion will last around 60 minutes. The professional discussion is a two-way conversation between the IEPA (Independent End Point Assessor) and the apprentice covering competency based questions prepared in advance by the IEPA.

Prior to the EPA/Gateway

The apprentice/provider/employer must confirm evidence of readiness for EPA by completing our Gateway form and provide evidence of Maths and English functional skills at level 2 or equivalent.

Our team of assessors are friendly, professional and will do their best to put apprentices at ease in order for them to achieve the best possible result they can. We will do our best to book an EPA date at a time that suits you; even offering weekend or evening assessment times, as well as a range of resources to help you prepare.

Two EPA components:

The Situational Judgement Test:

The apprentice will complete an online test where they are presented with 'real-life scenarios. They will then answer multiple choice questions. There are 60 questions in the test and 90 minutes maximum to complete. We will normally invigilate the test or we may allow the training provider to.

Professional Discussion:

The IEPA and the apprentice will complete a professional discussion, normally completed online using Teams or Zoom. The apprentice will give examples from their place of work and job role.

All components are assessed remotely using Zoom or Teams.

The Work-Based Project:

We will provide a list of topics for the work-based project for the apprentice to select from, which will be agreed by the IEPA and the employer. The apprentice then has 10 weeks to complete the project and upload to our system (ACE360). The word-count should be around 5000 words. The IEPA will mark the project and give feedback. The apprentice cannot move onto the next stage of the EPA until the project has been passed.

Presentation, Sales Pitch and Q&A:

The apprentice prepares a presentation and sends to the IEPA (via ACE360) 10 days before this part of the EPA is scheduled for. The presentation should last around 10 minutes, followed by a 5 minute explanation of how they prepared for the sales pitch. There is then a 15 minute Q&A session.

Professional Discussion (PD) supported by a Portfolio of Evidence:

The apprentice prepares a portfolio of their best work. The portfolio itself is not marked but frames the professional discussion. We have prepared a portfolio mapping document to help apprentices prepare for EPA which must be uploaded with the portfolio 10 days before the EPA. The PD has two parts: A 25 minute Q&A comprising of 5 structured questions and then a 25 minute discussion around some areas the IEPA wishes to explore further.

Prior to the EPA/Gateway

The apprentice/provider/employer must confirm evidence of readiness for EPA by completing our Gateway form and provide evidence of Maths and English functional skills at level 2 or equivalent.

Three EPA components:

Online Knowledge Test:

The knowledge test consists of 50 multiple choice questions and is normally completed online. We can in some circumstances, use paper-based testing. The test is invigilated and is taken under exam conditions. Our assessors will invigilate the test, which can be taken at college, work or from home.

Project or Improvement:

The apprentice delivers a presentation (normally online by screen sharing) on a project or improvement they have completed at work. The presentation should last 10-15 minutes, followed by a Q&A session of 10-15 minutes about t the project or improvement.

We offer a streamlined service for BA3 EPA, with the use of ACE360 we can easily access the learner portfolio and project documents. Our end point assessors will upload a personalised question to the system to help the apprentice with their Project, and this can then be seen in the shared documents area for the apprentice to add to their presentation. Easy and simple document sharing to help the process.

Portfolio-based Interview:

The apprentice must submit in advance a portfolio of evidence showing their best work which is used to frame the interview. The interview should last 30-45 minutes.

Prior to the EPA/Gateway

The apprentice/provider/employer must confirm evidence of readiness for EPA by completing our Gateway form and provide evidence of Maths and English functional skills at level 2 or equivalent. The apprentice must upload the project report and/or slides at Gateway and their Portfolio of Learning at least 2 weeks before the EPA.

The Showcase:

The apprentice will complete a Showcase (normally a Word Document, but could be in any format) to show the best of their on-programme work. This is then marked and will form the basis of the Showcase interview which is normally conducted online using Zoom or Teams.

Practical Observation:

The apprentice is observed in their place of work dealing with a range of different customer types. The observation is usually completed remotely using video conferencing/Zoom/Teams. We will have  meeting to plan how this is to be done in advance of the EPA with the apprentice/employer or provider.

Professional Discussion:

The IEPA and the apprentice will complete a professional discussion, normally completed online. The apprentice will give examples from their place of work and job role.
